HOUSING & CARE

Background
His Nesting Place was founded by Pastor Al Howard and his wife Judy in 1983, in Downey, California when they helped an unwed mother in a crisis pregnancy. The home is now located in a warm, cozy complex of buildings in North Long Beach and has become one of the largest extended pregnancy care facilities in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

His Nesting Place has established a reputation locally and nationally as a firm, loving, yet no-nonsense, spiritually centered Christian home-in every aspect of its ministry.

About the Program
His Nesting Place offers a caring Christian atmosphere to women who find themselves in a crisis pregnancy. Our organization gives these women a positive alternative to abortion when they feel they have no other choice. Our goal is to give a women the opportunity to have her baby and learn how to be a good mother and provider through education and guidance. We are able to house up to 40 women, children and/or staff at any given time.

Spiritual Emphasis
The mothers who come to His Nesting Place learn - from required daily devotionals and personal Bible study courses -- how Jesus Christ can free them from sin and purposeless living. At His Nesting Place we realize that exposing the mothers to the teachings and spiritual principles of the Word of God will help them build their character and personal integrity. They are taught not to become dismayed or frustrated by their many problems and that God strengthens them daily as they learn to walk with Him.

Our comprehensive spiritual program includes personal, individual counseling and regular church services, which are the centerpiece of our weekly activities. This spiritual emphasis touches every aspect of the Home. We recognize that the mothers come to us from abusive backgrounds, and thus we focus our program on rebuilding their self-esteem as they realize their real worth to God. Our goal is to give back to society a whole person.

Why Do We Help
His Nesting Place welcomes women who are pregnant and who have no where to turn. Our ministry also takes in homeless mothers and their children. We never put a time limit on those seeking our help. A woman may stay with us until she is restored and self-sufficient. We do not discriminate against race, religion, nationality or financial situation. Primarily, we ask only that a woman desires a changed life and a personal relationship with Christ to be admitted to our home.

Missionary Support
His Nesting Place is entirely supported by concerned individuals, churches and community organizations who donate time and financial support to the ministry. We depend completely on funding from free will offerings, community groups, church mission programs and speaking engagements. The Howards or other His Nesting Place staff are available to speak at churches, retreats and worship centers. For information, please call (562) 422-2137.
